In Cali, 1000L Advocates for Finance Transformation as Key in the Fight Against Biodiversity Loss

The Convention on Biological Diversity’s 16th Convention of Parties (CBD COP 15) is well underway, kicking off 12 days of dynamic panels and discussions in Cali, Colombia. There, experts from governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector are working to develop action plans to stem the increasing loss of our planet’s biodiversity. 1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People and our partners will be at the heart of the action, championing landscape approaches and landscape finance as essential tools for effectively restoring and protecting species diversity in the long term.

Biodiversity plays an essential role in our landscapes’ ecological, social, and cultural health. Despite decades of conservation efforts, biodiversity continues to decline at an alarming rate. Unsustainable land use and resource exploitation are the primary drivers of this loss. Countries need more inclusive approaches that can both enhance ecological resilience and support local livelihoods.

1000 Landscapes will join several critical discussions to highlight the need to develop collaborative strategies that engage leaders at every level and spotlight locally-led solutions. Together with experts from EcoAgriculture Partners, Commonland, Conservation International, Climate-KIC, CDP, SNV, and more, we’ll advocate for inclusive and sustainable finance solutions that can help countries achieve their biodiversity goals while strengthening local livelihoods and building landscape resilience.

As part of this effort, we’ve curated a list of landscape—and finance-focused side events that should interest our community. See below for our top selections, which we look forward to attending.

More From 1000L Partners at COP16

At COP16, Commonland will be on the ground advocating for greater policy. This means integrating landscape restoration into climate and biodiversity agendas to ensure that cross-cutting issues such as adaptation are seen not as a compromise, but as a necessary counterpart to mitigation and conservation.

CDP is hosting a series of events at COP16 in Cali, Colombia, working to raise the bar on action across society, ensure the right data is at the heart of The Global Biodiversity Framework and make the “implementation COP” a success.

Rainforest Alliance and partners will host a series of panels and side events highlighting proven solutions to halt deforestation, land degradation, and biodiversity loss.

EIT Climate-KIC will participate in COP16, the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, participating in several key sessions focused on advancing innovative solutions for biodiversity and climate action.

Achieving a nature-positive world by 2030 is not just a goal—it’s a necessity. Regenerative, landscape-level approaches are essential, yet the real challenge is rallying collective effort. Join SNV as they advocate for innovative solutions for biodiversity and nature-based solutions.
