1000L at COP 16: Landscape Finance for Holistic Landscape Restoration in Latin America and the Caribbean

539 539 people viewed this event.

As countries update their NBSAPs and develop biodiversity finance plans (BFPs) to meet GBF’s Target 2, innovative landscape finance is essential. Holistic landscape restoration, which addresses biodiversity loss, land degradation, climate change, and water management, offers multiple benefits and long-term returns.

Recognition of landscape and ecosystem restoration’s importance has surged, driven by data showing its economic, social, and environmental benefits. Global initiatives like the Bonn Challenge, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, 1000 Landscapes for One Billion People, Initiative 20×20, and the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative reflect this growing commitment. These movements promote awareness, knowledge exchange, resource mobilization, and coordinated restoration efforts.

We will introduce a new publication, ‘Towards Financing Large-scale Restoration in Latin America and the Caribbean’ (available in English and Spanish), offering policy recommendations for scaling holistic restoration efforts through integrated landscape and water management approaches, aligned with the ecosystem approach (CBD COP5 2000).
