Governance as Infrastructure: Unlocking Regenerative Landscape Investment

Governance as Infrastructure: Unlocking Regenerative Landscape Investment

52 52 people viewed this event.

Climate change is increasing risks for communities, ecosystems and those seeking to invest in them. Yet finance and development initiatives are often designed project by project or sector by sector, overlooking the connections among water, agriculture, forests, biodiversity, land rights, livelihoods and local economies.

Integrated landscape approaches bring communities, governments, investors, businesses and civil society together to address these interconnected priorities. Making these approaches work requires credible governance, shared priorities, coordination systems and accountability arrangements. It also takes time, capable institutions, meaningful participation, conflict-resolution processes and sustained funding.

This interactive session co-hosted by Regen10, 1000 Landscapes For 1 Billion People, Persimmon Co-Lab, Sustainable Food Trust, and LandScale will examine a central question: If effective governance helps de-risk investment, who should pay for the governance that makes investment possible?

Drawing on real-world examples, participants will explore:

  • What effective landscape governance costs
  • Which governance elements are essential
  • Who currently pays, and who could pay
  • How governance changes the risk profile for communities and investors
  • Whether governance can be financed as enabling infrastructure
  • Designed as a highly conversational session rather than a panel or formal presentation, the event will connect landscape and community practitioners with donors, investors, governments and others involved in deploying capital.
  • Participants will leave with practical examples of integrated landscape governance, a clearer understanding of its costs, insights into how it can reduce risk, and a framework for considering governance as investable infrastructure.

Who should attend

Landscape practitioners; community and Indigenous organizations; conservation and development organizations; governments; philanthropists and donors; impact investors; nature-finance practitioners; and anyone interested in the relationship between governance, resilience and investment viability.
